In Memoriam: Gospel Legend Lashun Pace

Gospel singer LaShun Pace has passed away. She was born Tarrian LaShun Pace in Atlanta, Georgia in 1956.

LaShun was raised in a very small community, in which she began to perform with the local church choir as a child. When LaShun was a teenager, she started the Stellar and Grammy nominated vocal group the Anointed Pace Sisters, with her eight sisters. The sister group, formed by Bettie Ann, won Best Gospel Group at a COGIC convention and toured nationally with their dynamic singing uncle Evangelist Gene Martin as part of Evangelist A.A. Allen’s Action Revival Team.

Recently LaShun Pace’s 1996 single, “Act Like You Know” went major-viral thanks to actors, creating comical skits where they use the lyrics to highlight the obvious, reveal secrets, expose feigned ignorance, or call out those who are oblivious to what should be well known.

LaShun Pace released her solo debut, “In the House of the Lord,” in 1988. The album was a collaboration alongside the Cathedral of Faith Choir and its director, Dr. Jonathan Greer, but it immediately brought LaShun recognition in the gospel community. After signing with Savoy Records, LaShun went on to release her follow-up, “He Lives” in 1990, which rose into the top five and gave audiences what would become LaShun’s signature single, “I Know I’ve Been Changing.”

“He Lives” eventually established Lashun Pace as one of the era’s most significant gospel performers, and paved the way for a career which has since lasted well into the new millennium.

In 1992, LaShun was seen on the big screen as the Angel of Mercy in the Steve Martin film “Leap of Faith.” She would later star in faith-based musicals such as David E. Talbert’s “A Fool and His Money.” She also authored an autobiography called “For My Good But For His Glory.”

Since that time, LaShun Pace released various albums including “Shekinah Glory” (1993), “God is Faithful” (2001), “It’s My Time” (2005) and ““Reborn” (2011). Her last album release was “By Your Word” in 2014 with 2019‘s “Joy,” being her last released single.

LaShun Pace was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In January 2015, she and the Anointed Pace Sisters were honored in their hometown of Atlanta at the 16th Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards.
